How to Update NETGEAR Router Firmware?

Here are the few steps to follow to manually update Netgear router firmware on your router:

  1. Connect your PC to your router with an Ethernet wire.
  2. If you need help, visit NETGEAR’s support page.
  3. You’ll need to enter the Product Name or Model Number of your router.
  4. To access them, select Downloads.
  5. Choose a firmware release, and then hit the Download button.
  6. In the event that you need to access the contents, unzip the file.
  7. To access your netgear router‘s administrative dashboard, go to routerlogin.net.
  8. There will be a login screen.
  9. The default username and password are “admin” and “password,” respectively. They both pay attention to capitalization.
  10. The default BASIC welcome screen has loaded.
  11. Proceed to the next step by selecting ADVANCED > Advanced Setup > Wireless Bridge.
  12. Choose to Upgrade the Firmware or the Router.
  13. Select the Choose File or Browse option, then locate the firmware file that ends in .img or .chk, and select it.
  14. Select Upload and press Enter.
  15. When you go ahead and hit the UPDATE button.
  16. Don’t even try logging on to the internet.
  17. It’s time to power down the modem.
  18. Wait for the router to finish rebooting before proceeding further.

The router will reboot and begin installing the new firmware. The entire process of updating the firmware takes around two minutes.
